Headaches and Migraines

Headache and Migraine Support in Leamington Spa & Warwick

Headaches can be frustrating, draining and hard to plan around. For some patients across Leamington Spa and Warwick, it is a tight band that builds during the working day. For others, it is a migraine that arrives without warning and demands a quiet, dark room. If headaches are creeping into your week more often than you would like, it is worth taking a careful look at the patterns behind them rather than relying only on quick relief.

What is happening with headaches and migraines?

Not every headache has the same cause. In some people, the neck and upper back play a clear role, with restricted upper-cervical movement, tight shoulder and jaw muscles, postural strain and trigger points all contributing. In others, hormonal, neurological, dietary or sleep-related factors are more important. Migraines are far more than a bad headache and can have multiple triggers. Chiropractic care does not claim to cure migraines, but where a mechanical or muscular component is feeding into the pattern, supporting that component may help.

Common signs and symptoms

  • Pain at the base of the skull or around the temples
  • Headaches after screen time, desk work or driving
  • Tightness in the neck, shoulders or jaw
  • Pain that seems to begin in the neck and spread upward
  • Light sensitivity, nausea or throbbing episodes
  • Headaches linked with stress, poor sleep or hormonal changes

Common causes

  • Neck joint restriction or upper back stiffness
  • Tension in the neck, shoulders or jaw muscles
  • Desk posture, phone use and prolonged screen time
  • Stress-driven clenching or shallow breathing patterns
  • Previous neck injury or whiplash history
  • Sleep habits that overload the neck overnight

How we can help at Park Street Chiropractic

We begin by listening carefully to your pattern of symptoms in our Warwickshire clinic, including how often they occur, what they feel like and what seems to trigger them. If our assessment suggests that mechanical or muscular contributors are involved, your care may include gentle chiropractic spinal adjustments to ease restricted upper-cervical movement, joint mobilisation techniques where a softer approach suits, dry needling (acupuncture) for stubborn neck, shoulder and jaw tension, and deeper soft tissue work through our separate sports massage therapist when needed.

We will also talk practically through desk setup, sleep position, hydration and stress strategies. Importantly, if your symptoms suggest something outside routine musculoskeletal care, or you have neurological concerns, we will be honest about that and guide you back to your GP for further investigation. Our role is to support the mechanical side of the picture, not to replace medical care.

Book a consultation if you would like to explore whether neck and posture factors may be contributing to your headaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can chiropractic care support people with migraines?

Migraines are far more than a bad headache and can have many triggers, from stress and hormones to sleep patterns, posture, neck tension and certain foods. For many sufferers there is also a mechanical or muscular component, such as tight upper neck and shoulder muscles, restricted upper-cervical movement, postural strain or stress-driven jaw clenching. Chiropractic care does not claim to cure migraines, but it may help by easing neck and shoulder tension, improving spinal mobility, releasing trigger points and supporting better posture and sleep, which can reduce frequency or intensity for some patients.

Cervicogenic headaches often start at the base of the skull, build up after long periods at a desk or driving, and feel one-sided rather than affecting the whole head. They can also be triggered or eased by certain neck movements. During your assessment, we look for these patterns and check whether the small joints and muscles in your neck reproduce or change your symptoms.

Several small daily habits can make a real difference. Stay well-hydrated, take regular screen breaks every 30 to 45 minutes, and check your pillow height and sleep position. Add gentle neck mobility exercises, simple shoulder and jaw relaxation, consistent meal and sleep times, light daily movement and basic stress management. At your appointment, we will give you personalised home advice tailored to what is actually driving your headaches.

I've been going to Park Street Chiropractic Clinic for a number of years now, following some lower back issues. Initially, I was treated by Abbie, who was fantastic in aiding my early recovery, supported superbly a handful of times by Henry when she was on leave. After an initial assessment, I had a course of treatments that involved multiple sessions per week to help get over my injury before transitioning to less frequent ones every six weeks or so to keep me in check. More recently, I've been going to Ellie, who has been amazing at providing regular adjustments and helpful advice that helps keep me in shape, despite the best efforts of my desk job to achieve otherwise. Ellie, as with all of the chiropractors there, is exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful, as well as being very friendly, which helps to make the whole process much more relaxing than one would ordinarily associate with a medical treatment. All of the team, including the chiropractors and reception staff, are incredibly professional, friendly and welcoming, making visits there a pleasure. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ellie and any of the team at Park Street Chiropractic Clinic.

I came in to see Ellie, and I was in quite a bad way. Thanks to Ellie my neck and lower back are now so much better, with no pain and much more movement. Really was life changing.

I can’t thank Ellie enough for the excellent care I have received at Park Street Chiropractic clinic. I could hardly walk on my first appointment due to a back issue. Ellie was empathetic, supportive and patient, it’s taken me 3 months of regular manipulation appointments and now ongoing maintenance to get me back to 90% and back to walking my puppy 😊 Thank you and the whole team for your support.

Having not seen a chiropractor for a long time, I went to see Ellie at Park Street Chiropractic, with chronic neck pain which was stopping me sleeping and impacting daily life. She swiftly recognised the issue and suggested a course of treatment, the impact of which was immediate. Would recommend Ellie and the team wholeheartedly.

I saw Ellie for my hips/back and neck. I was an athlete for years so my joints are a tad hypermobile and Ellie came in like a queen and sorted me out. First visit had tons of relief, second visit had me fully back to normal. She’s an amazing godstar at her job. 10/10 go to her for care. I’ll be going in the future for any concerns

I honestly can't recommend Henry highly enough, the treatment has made a huge difference, and I've been really impressed not only with Henry's knowledge and skill, but his genuine concern for his patients. I have literally recommended him to everyone I know.
