Hip & Pelvic Pain

Hip & Pelvic Pain Treatment in Leamington Spa & Warwick

Hip and pelvic pain can make walking, standing, exercising, climbing stairs and even sleeping on one side uncomfortable. Patients across Leamington Spa and Warwick describe it in many different ways. Some feel a deep ache in the groin, some on the outside of the hip, and others in the buttock, upper thigh or across the pelvis itself. Because the hip sits so close to the pelvis, lower back and sacroiliac (SI) joints, the exact source is often not obvious without a proper, movement-based assessment.

What is hip and pelvic pain?

The hip is a strong ball-and-socket joint supported by powerful muscles, tendons and stabilising tissues. Sitting just above it, the pelvis includes the sacroiliac (SI) joints, which connect the spine to the pelvis and play a key role in how load is shared through the body. Pain may come from irritation in the hip joint itself, overload through the gluteal tendons, muscular tightness around the pelvis, or strain patterns referred from the lower back or the SI joints. In active people it may be linked with running, gym work or training changes. In others it can build gradually through sitting, stiffness, pregnancy-related changes or general wear and tear.

Common signs and symptoms

  • Pain in the groin, outer hip, buttock or upper thigh
  • Discomfort across the pelvis or SI joint area
  • Stiffness after sitting or first thing in the morning
  • Pain walking uphill, climbing stairs or lying on one side
  • Reduced range of movement when crossing legs or bending
  • Symptoms linked with lower back or sacroiliac discomfort

Common causes

  • Gluteal tendon irritation or muscular overload
  • Reduced hip mobility or joint stiffness
  • Sacroiliac joint dysfunction or pelvic imbalance
  • Running, walking or training changes
  • Long periods of sitting or repeated one-sided stance
  • Age-related wear and reduced resilience in the joint

How we can help at Park Street Chiropractic

In our Warwickshire clinic, the hip and pelvis are assessed together with the lower back, knees and feet, because pain in this area is rarely about one joint alone. Your care may include chiropractic care for the pelvis and spine, pelvic blocks to gently realign the pelvis and decompress the lower back, joint mobilisation techniques for the hip itself, and dry needling (acupuncture) for tight gluteal, hip flexor or piriformis muscles.

Our separate sports massage therapist can also support recovery through deeper soft tissue and deep tissue work. Where lower limb mechanics are loading the hip and pelvis, our gait scan (static and dynamic) and custom orthotics service can help reduce strain travelling up from the feet. If clinically appropriate, on-site digital X-ray imaging can clarify structural changes such as alignment or arthritic wear. Our overall goal is to reduce irritation, restore movement and help daily activity feel more comfortable.

If hip or pelvic pain is affecting how you move, book an appointment with Park Street Chiropractic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can chiropractic help with hip and pelvic pain?

Yes. Chiropractic care can often help where the hip, pelvis, sacroiliac joints, lower back and surrounding muscles are contributing to discomfort. We assess the whole area together rather than only one painful spot, which usually leads to a more tailored and useful plan for patients across Leamington Spa and Warwick.

Long periods of sitting can stiffen the hips and pelvis, overload the SI joints and increase tension through the gluteal and hip flexor muscles. When you stand up, that built-up stiffness often shows itself as pain or a slow, guarded first few steps.

Yes, with appropriate adjustments to technique. We take a careful history, avoid contraindicated movements, and tailor treatment around your surgery, recovery stage and any guidance from your surgeon.

I've been going to Park Street Chiropractic Clinic for a number of years now, following some lower back issues. Initially, I was treated by Abbie, who was fantastic in aiding my early recovery, supported superbly a handful of times by Henry when she was on leave. After an initial assessment, I had a course of treatments that involved multiple sessions per week to help get over my injury before transitioning to less frequent ones every six weeks or so to keep me in check. More recently, I've been going to Ellie, who has been amazing at providing regular adjustments and helpful advice that helps keep me in shape, despite the best efforts of my desk job to achieve otherwise. Ellie, as with all of the chiropractors there, is exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful, as well as being very friendly, which helps to make the whole process much more relaxing than one would ordinarily associate with a medical treatment. All of the team, including the chiropractors and reception staff, are incredibly professional, friendly and welcoming, making visits there a pleasure. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ellie and any of the team at Park Street Chiropractic Clinic.

I came in to see Ellie, and I was in quite a bad way. Thanks to Ellie my neck and lower back are now so much better, with no pain and much more movement. Really was life changing.

I can’t thank Ellie enough for the excellent care I have received at Park Street Chiropractic clinic. I could hardly walk on my first appointment due to a back issue. Ellie was empathetic, supportive and patient, it’s taken me 3 months of regular manipulation appointments and now ongoing maintenance to get me back to 90% and back to walking my puppy 😊 Thank you and the whole team for your support.

Having not seen a chiropractor for a long time, I went to see Ellie at Park Street Chiropractic, with chronic neck pain which was stopping me sleeping and impacting daily life. She swiftly recognised the issue and suggested a course of treatment, the impact of which was immediate. Would recommend Ellie and the team wholeheartedly.

I saw Ellie for my hips/back and neck. I was an athlete for years so my joints are a tad hypermobile and Ellie came in like a queen and sorted me out. First visit had tons of relief, second visit had me fully back to normal. She’s an amazing godstar at her job. 10/10 go to her for care. I’ll be going in the future for any concerns

I honestly can't recommend Henry highly enough, the treatment has made a huge difference, and I've been really impressed not only with Henry's knowledge and skill, but his genuine concern for his patients. I have literally recommended him to everyone I know.
