Jaw Pain
Jaw Pain Treatment in Leamington Spa & Warwick
Jaw pain is more common than many people realise. We see patients across Leamington Spa and Warwick who describe it as a deep ache around the cheeks, a clicking when opening their mouth, tightness with chewing, or soreness just in front of the ear. Some wake up with it after grinding at night, others notice it alongside neck tension, headaches or stressful weeks at work. Because the jaw works closely with the neck and surrounding muscles, problems in one area can quickly influence the other.
What is jaw pain?
The jaw joint is called the temporomandibular joint, or TMJ. You have one on each side, and they help you speak, chew, yawn and swallow. Jaw pain may develop when the joint itself becomes irritated, when the muscles around it are overloaded, or when the neck and posture place extra strain through the area. In many cases it is not a simple jaw issue. It is part of a wider pattern that involves the neck, posture, breathing, stress and sleep, which is why a broader assessment makes such a difference.
Common signs and symptoms
- Clicking, popping or grating in the jaw
- Pain when chewing, yawning or opening wide
- Tightness through the cheeks, temples or around the ear
- Teeth grinding or clenching, especially at night
- Headaches linked with jaw tension
- A feeling that the jaw is stiff, uneven or occasionally catches
Common causes
- Clenching or grinding the teeth
- Stress-related muscular tension
- Poor head and neck posture
- Tension through the upper neck and shoulders
- Jaw overuse, gum chewing or heavy biting habits
- Previous strain or dental-related changes in the area
How we can help at Park Street Chiropractic
Helping the jaw usually means treating it as part of a bigger system. In our Warwickshire clinic we assess not only the jaw itself but also the upper neck, posture and the surrounding muscles. Treatment may include gentle joint mobilisation techniques applied to the jaw and upper neck, careful chiropractic care for the cervical and upper thoracic spine where appropriate, and dry needling (acupuncture) for tight supporting muscles such as the masseter, temporalis and trapezius.
Where muscular tension is a major driver, our separate sports massage therapist can offer deeper soft tissue and deep tissue work to release stubborn knots. We also talk through the daily habits that quietly keep the jaw irritated, including clenching, chewing gum, working posture and sleep position. Small, practical changes there can make a surprisingly big difference between sessions.
If jaw pain is affecting your day, book a consultation with Park Street Chiropractic today.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can chiropractic help with jaw pain or TMJ problems?
Yes. Where mechanical or muscular factors are contributing to jaw pain, chiropractic care can be very supportive. By addressing the upper neck, posture, jaw movement and surrounding tight muscles, many of our patients in Leamington Spa and Warwick notice their jaw feels less reactive day to day.
Why does stress make my jaw pain worse?
When we are stressed, we often hold tension in our jaw and shoulders without realising. Many people clench their teeth, especially overnight, which can overload the jaw muscles and joints. Reducing stress, supporting better sleep and easing muscular tension is therefore a key part of a sensible jaw pain plan.
Is chiropractic treatment for the jaw painful?
Treatment around the jaw is gentle and carefully applied. Some areas may feel tender, particularly tight muscles around the cheek or temple, but the techniques themselves are not designed to be painful. We will always check in with you and adjust what we are doing if anything feels too much.

I've been going to Park Street Chiropractic Clinic for a number of years now, following some lower back issues. Initially, I was treated by Abbie, who was fantastic in aiding my early recovery, supported superbly a handful of times by Henry when she was on leave. After an initial assessment, I had a course of treatments that involved multiple sessions per week to help get over my injury before transitioning to less frequent ones every six weeks or so to keep me in check. More recently, I've been going to Ellie, who has been amazing at providing regular adjustments and helpful advice that helps keep me in shape, despite the best efforts of my desk job to achieve otherwise. Ellie, as with all of the chiropractors there, is exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful, as well as being very friendly, which helps to make the whole process much more relaxing than one would ordinarily associate with a medical treatment. All of the team, including the chiropractors and reception staff, are incredibly professional, friendly and welcoming, making visits there a pleasure. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ellie and any of the team at Park Street Chiropractic Clinic.Posted on Google![]()

I can’t thank Ellie enough for the excellent care I have received at Park Street Chiropractic clinic. I could hardly walk on my first appointment due to a back issue. Ellie was empathetic, supportive and patient, it’s taken me 3 months of regular manipulation appointments and now ongoing maintenance to get me back to 90% and back to walking my puppy 😊 Thank you and the whole team for your support.Posted on Google![]()

Having not seen a chiropractor for a long time, I went to see Ellie at Park Street Chiropractic, with chronic neck pain which was stopping me sleeping and impacting daily life. She swiftly recognised the issue and suggested a course of treatment, the impact of which was immediate. Would recommend Ellie and the team wholeheartedly.Posted on Google![]()

I saw Ellie for my hips/back and neck. I was an athlete for years so my joints are a tad hypermobile and Ellie came in like a queen and sorted me out. First visit had tons of relief, second visit had me fully back to normal. She’s an amazing godstar at her job. 10/10 go to her for care. I’ll be going in the future for any concernsPosted on Google![]()

I honestly can't recommend Henry highly enough, the treatment has made a huge difference, and I've been really impressed not only with Henry's knowledge and skill, but his genuine concern for his patients. I have literally recommended him to everyone I know.
