Shoulder Pain
Shoulder Pain Treatment in Leamington Spa & Warwick
Shoulder pain can make everyday tasks feel far harder than they should. Reaching for a cupboard, fastening a seatbelt during the Warwick commute, lying on one side at night, lifting a child or putting on a jacket can suddenly feel uncomfortable. Because the shoulder is such a mobile joint, it relies heavily on the surrounding muscles, the upper back and the way the shoulder blade moves. When one part of that system becomes overloaded, the whole area tends to complain quickly.
What is shoulder pain?
The shoulder is not a single joint. It is a group of joints, muscles, tendons and stabilising tissues working together to move your arm smoothly. Pain may come from irritation in the rotator cuff, stiffness around the joint, muscular overload, reduced upper back mobility, or changes in how the shoulder blade glides over the rib cage. Sometimes symptoms stay around the shoulder. In other cases they refer into the upper arm or are influenced by the neck. That is why we never look at the shoulder in isolation.
Common signs and symptoms
- Pain lifting the arm or reaching overhead
- Aching when lying on the affected side
- Pain around the top, front or outer shoulder
- Stiffness or reduced range of movement
- Weakness or pain when carrying or pushing
- A catching or pinching feeling during certain movements
Common causes
- Rotator cuff irritation or overload
- Poor shoulder blade control and upper back stiffness
- Posture-related strain from desks or driving
- Gym, lifting, racket sports or repetitive overhead use
- Protective tension after a small strain or knock
- Frozen shoulder or age-related wear in the joint
How we can help at Park Street Chiropractic
In our Leamington Spa clinic, the shoulder is assessed within the context of the whole upper body, because problems here are rarely only about the shoulder. We look at how the shoulder blade moves, what the neck and upper back are doing, and whether the joint itself looks stiff, weak or irritated. Care may include joint mobilisation techniques for the shoulder, chiropractic spinal adjustments to free up restricted upper back or neck segments, and dry needling (acupuncture) to settle overworked muscles such as the rotator cuff, trapezius and pectoralis.
Our separate sports massage therapist is available for deeper soft tissue and deep tissue release where needed. You will also receive practical advice on movement, loading and exercises designed to keep the shoulder calm between visits. Where helpful, on-site digital X-ray imaging can support diagnosis.
If shoulder pain is making daily life harder, book an appointment and let us help you move more comfortably.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can chiropractic help with shoulder pain?
Yes. Chiropractic care can support many causes of mechanical shoulder pain by improving joint movement, easing surrounding muscle tension and addressing how the upper back and neck contribute to the problem. Many of our patients in Leamington Spa and Warwick find this combined approach a real help.
Why does my shoulder hurt more at night?
Shoulders often feel worse at night because lying on the affected side compresses irritated tissues, and gravity is no longer helping support the arm. Inflammation also tends to feel more noticeable during periods of rest. We will assess what is contributing and give advice on sleep positions that may make a difference.
Is shoulder treatment safe if I have an old injury or surgery?
Yes, with sensible adjustments to technique. We take a full history of any previous injuries or operations, modify our approach accordingly and choose softer options where needed. If anything we find suggests further investigation is needed, we will refer you back to your GP or a specialist.

I've been going to Park Street Chiropractic Clinic for a number of years now, following some lower back issues. Initially, I was treated by Abbie, who was fantastic in aiding my early recovery, supported superbly a handful of times by Henry when she was on leave. After an initial assessment, I had a course of treatments that involved multiple sessions per week to help get over my injury before transitioning to less frequent ones every six weeks or so to keep me in check. More recently, I've been going to Ellie, who has been amazing at providing regular adjustments and helpful advice that helps keep me in shape, despite the best efforts of my desk job to achieve otherwise. Ellie, as with all of the chiropractors there, is exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful, as well as being very friendly, which helps to make the whole process much more relaxing than one would ordinarily associate with a medical treatment. All of the team, including the chiropractors and reception staff, are incredibly professional, friendly and welcoming, making visits there a pleasure. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ellie and any of the team at Park Street Chiropractic Clinic.Posted on Google![]()

I can’t thank Ellie enough for the excellent care I have received at Park Street Chiropractic clinic. I could hardly walk on my first appointment due to a back issue. Ellie was empathetic, supportive and patient, it’s taken me 3 months of regular manipulation appointments and now ongoing maintenance to get me back to 90% and back to walking my puppy 😊 Thank you and the whole team for your support.Posted on Google![]()

Having not seen a chiropractor for a long time, I went to see Ellie at Park Street Chiropractic, with chronic neck pain which was stopping me sleeping and impacting daily life. She swiftly recognised the issue and suggested a course of treatment, the impact of which was immediate. Would recommend Ellie and the team wholeheartedly.Posted on Google![]()

I saw Ellie for my hips/back and neck. I was an athlete for years so my joints are a tad hypermobile and Ellie came in like a queen and sorted me out. First visit had tons of relief, second visit had me fully back to normal. She’s an amazing godstar at her job. 10/10 go to her for care. I’ll be going in the future for any concernsPosted on Google![]()

I honestly can't recommend Henry highly enough, the treatment has made a huge difference, and I've been really impressed not only with Henry's knowledge and skill, but his genuine concern for his patients. I have literally recommended him to everyone I know.
