Sports Injuries

Sports Injury Treatment in Leamington Spa & Warwick

Whether you run around Jephson Gardens, train at a gym in Warwick, play tennis, lift weights, cycle or simply enjoy keeping active across Warwickshire, an injury can be both painful and frustrating. Sports injuries often happen when the body is overloaded, fatigued or compensating around an older weakness. Some are sudden, such as a twisted ankle or a strain mid-session. Others build slowly and start as the kind of niggle you hope will settle by itself. Getting the right advice early often makes a real difference to how quickly you return to what you love.

What is a sports injury?

A sports injury can affect muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints or nerves. Importantly, the issue is rarely only the sore structure itself. The movement pattern that led to overload usually also needs attention. For example, repeated ankle sprains can be linked with balance and control issues, while running pain can be influenced by hip strength, foot mechanics or sudden changes in training load. This is why sports injury care needs to be practical and individualised, not just hands-on.

Common signs and symptoms

  • Pain during or after sport or exercise
  • Swelling, stiffness or reduced movement after activity
  • A feeling of weakness, instability or poor control
  • Repeated flare-ups when you try to return to training
  • Pain with running, jumping, twisting or lifting
  • Loss of confidence in the injured area

Common causes

  • Sudden sprains, strains or awkward impact
  • Overtraining or increasing activity too quickly
  • Poor recovery, fatigue or reduced sleep
  • Weakness or imbalance in supporting muscles
  • Previous injury that changed movement patterns
  • Foot, pelvic or spinal mechanics that increase overload

How we can help at Park Street Chiropractic

We approach sports injuries by looking at both the painful area and the whole movement chain around it. At our Leamington Spa clinic, your care may include chiropractic spinal adjustments, pelvic blocks to support pelvic alignment, joint mobilisation techniques, and dry needling (acupuncture) for tight or overloaded muscles. For deeper muscular release, our separate sports massage therapist works alongside us using deep tissue and a range of soft tissue techniques.

When the lower limb is contributing, our gait scan (static and dynamic) and custom orthotics service can help correct repeated overload through the feet, knees and hips. Where useful, on-site digital X-ray imaging can support diagnosis. We also help identify training errors, recovery habits or movement issues that may be slowing progress, so the aim is not just short-term relief but a confident return to sport with less risk of repeating the same problem.

Book a sports injury consultation and let us help you get back to doing what you enjoy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can chiropractic help with sports injuries?

Yes. Chiropractic care can be a valuable part of sports injury management, whether you are a weekend runner in Leamington Spa or training competitively across Warwickshire. By improving joint movement, easing muscular tension and addressing the wider mechanics behind the injury, we support both recovery and a sensible return to performance.

Often, yes, although that depends on your specific injury. We can usually help guide sensible activity modification rather than assuming you must stop everything. Sometimes a small adjustment to load, technique or weekly schedule is enough to keep you moving while symptoms settle.

Chiropractic care is widely used by both amateur and professional athletes. Techniques are tailored to the demands of your sport and your current training load, so the approach feels appropriate rather than generic. It is not only useful after an injury, but also supports ongoing performance and recovery. When planning care, we take into account your training schedule, competition timing and intensity, so treatment fits sensibly around what you are working towards.

A very friendly practice, and a great sports massage from Ross. He's not afraid to get into the knots where it's needed, but I've never had any discomfort afterwards (which is a bonus!)

I've been working with Abbie Davis for several months now, helping put my spine and ribs back into place as I've dealt with the nasty combination of long covid, hypermobility, and a knee injury. I first emailed the practice to ask if anyone there was experienced working with hypermobility, since it can be very risky in the wrong hands. Abbie was recommended as having an especially gentle touch. She listened well, accepted my limitations (no sudden twisting cervical adjustments), and has been a wonderful addition to my care team for my long term recovery. I like her preventative emphasis, which feels like she wants me to really get better rather than having to keep coming in for adjustments forever. She also communicated with the massage therapist I'm working with, Ross, to give him a heads up on my specific needs. My stability and pain has improved a lot, with much fewer subluxes in my ribs and spine. I'm able to breathe more deeply without pain. The front desk people also are friendly, helpful, and respond quickly. I'm happy to have found this place.

Abbie has recently treated my baby for neck tension and even after the first session there was visible improvement. Abbie is very professional and explained all aspects of the treatment plan and how it is tailored for babies which reassured me. She has a lovely, patient manner with little ones and will go at their pace and always puts their wellbeing first to make it a positive experience. I would highly recommend Abbie for both children and adult treatments.

I came to the clinic in roughly 2 months ago and I saw Dr. Henry who did my consultation + helped me with the following treatments. It was a complete 180 turn for me. In May.. I wasn't able to walk for longer than a few minutes because of my sciatica + I had to rely on using a walking stick, which I don't find very aesthetic for someone in their mid 30s. I am now able to do my every day activities without pain now and feel so much more functional, especially when I walk my dog or take the car to work. Dr. Henry and park street chiropractic clinic has helped me beyond what I could imagine. I would recommend them to anyone who needs their help.

Dr. Henry has been amazing.. For a bit of context, I fell off a ladder at the end of May this year and had many visits in/out from A&E which had help at all. There was sharp pains shooting down my leg and a mix of numbness and pins and needles down my feet too.. I was recommended to see Henry by my mate and i'm so glad I did. I couldn't work, walk upright or drive without excruciating pain. It's so great that i'm more mobile and able to work, look after my daughter and drive properly now. Thank you again Dr. Henry and Park Street Chiropractic team !

I’ve been seeing Dr. Henry Wong at Park Street Chiropractic Clinic for chronic lower back pain that I’ve suffered with for over 20 years, which I believe developed from playing cricket and football, along with years of prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending and lifting which I need to do for work . Henry thoroughly assessed my condition and recommended chiropractic treatment, rehab exercises, a gait scan + custom orthotics. Since wearing the orthotics, I’ve felt much more comfortable and confident walking, both at work and in everyday life, and my posture has improved significantly. I’m very grateful for Henry expertise and care, and I’d highly recommend him to anyone struggling with ongoing muscle or joint problems.

Seeing Henry at Park Street Chiro and he is fantastic. I’ve had quite a lot of issues related to spine and muscles and a month later they are all addressed and continuing to improve. I’m enjoying a more active lifestyle than before and will continue building on to become very fit again. Thanks Henry

I came to see Dr. Henry Wong at Park Street Chiropractic about 2 months ago because of a horrible lasting pain i had in my lower back and buttock area. This was a problem i've had now and again, and persisted for the past 30 years due to my athletic younger days whilst playing a lot of sports. I am so glad to find someone who actually cares about my health development. Whatever worry and silly question I had, Henry answered with genuine interest + has acted professionally through and through. I feel 90% better now and what's really helped are the rehabilitation exercises I was set as well as the customised orthotics i was prescribed too. Walking feels a lot more comfortable and i feel more confident going about my daily activities now. Thanks so much Dr. Henry and Park Street Team.
